How to Make Amazing Homemade Buns

These homemade buns are seriously good. They are highly requested at family gatherings and are made in just 6 simple steps. You can shape them any way you like they bake up with a beautiful golden crust. If you’re looking for a delicious side for your next meal, this is my go-to recipe for dinner rolls.

To make homemade buns, add ingredients to the bread maker and start the dough cycle. When the cycle is complete, shape the buns and brush with a simple egg wash. Bake buns in the oven at 350′ for 20 minutes.

The ingredients are all listed below on the recipe card.

Once you’ve added all the ingredients except yeast into the bread pan, create a small well in the flour, then add the yeast. If your bread machine has a warming cycle before mixing, this will ensure the yeast is not activated too early.

After the dough cycle is finished, I sprinkle a little flour on my pizza stone… which I use as a baking sheet. Then I place the dough from the bread maker on it. The stoneware baking sheet creates a beautiful crust and the buns turn out flawless. Using stoneware will often eliminate any chance of burning your food.

Use a knife to separate the dough into 12 equal portions.

Shaping the Dough

Start with the smoothest surface of the dough and roll the dough under gently several times until you have a nice smooth shape. Then you are ready to add the egg wash.

Glaze for Homemade Buns

You could use a variety of ingredients to glaze the buns including butter or just plain milk, but I use an egg mixed with a tablespoon of water to brush on each roll. This creates a dark shiny glaze once they are baked.

Cook Time

Preheat the oven to 350′ F and let the buns rise for 20 minutes. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes and then let cool before serving. If you are bringing them to another home to enjoy, let them cool completely before wrapping. We don’t often have leftovers, but when we do they are also wonderful the following day!
